Have you ever wondered what drives a company to be the best? Is it just a number that gets you out of bed each morning, or is it something else that gives you that desire? If money was the only objective, you would probably find yourself in an endless Groundhog Day loop of “not enough.” Perhaps the secret drive of the construction industry is embedded in our history. So many construction companies have similar origin stories that begin with a small family-owned business that is motivated to simply create, build, provide, and serve others. The character and the art of the people in our industry is what shapes legacies for 50 or 100-year-old construction companies, and it is also what fuels inspiration for many just getting started.
Skills can be learned. You can learn to be a professional at almost anything (Malcolm Gladwell showed us hundreds of examples in his books). Sadly, once you do become the expert, you will realize that others have done the same thing, and you are back where you started – wondering what separates you from the pack.
That edge you are looking for is unique to you, and can only be defined by you. It is your reliability, your ethics, your concern for your employees, your ability to weather the ups and downs, your community, your people, and your character. Go back and read the biography of those companies nearing a century in age (and your own), and you will find similar priorities.
We encourage you to automate your workflows and use the tools in HCSS products to get more out of your resources not because we want to replace you with technology. We build this software because we want to emphasize the unique abilities that you have to offer to your business. Repetitive tasks, like mastering a skill will just make you even with the competition. Bill Gates once said, “I always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.” Construction is extraordinary and different because the industry is full of people who are already predisposed to working twice as hard, and in horrible conditions. So imagine if we showed our people a way to cut their efforts in half. What if they continued to work with the same intensity – imagine how far they could take your company.
This is what we’re focused on doing for you – we want to create opportunities with webinars to connect you with experts with proven processes; introduce you to companies that are achieving their goals and inspire you to push with them; and help you practice good habits, and ask the right questions so that you can do more with every man-hour you’ve already budgeted.
I encourage you to sign up for our webinars, and keep an eye out for subjects that interest you. We are taking online learning to the next level, and hope that you will be active participants. The webinars are free so you really have nothing to lose, and the HCSS Academy is available to HCSS users. Bring your questions, engage the instructors, and give feedback so that we can make the process better the next round. We appreciate you, and are always looking for ways to help you succeed.
